Fungus Gnat Attack Pack

I think we can all agree that fungus gnats are the worst! Their relentless buzzing around your face and plants can make you go mad! Luckily I’ve got my go to solutions to share with you to help you get rid of these lil’ buggers.

Mosquito Bits

These mosquito bits are my go to solution for treating the soil to rid of fungus gnat larvae. Fungus gnats lay their eggs typically in the top 2” inches of soil. By making a “tea” with these bits and watering the soil with it will help to kill off the larvae as they will eat the “tea” and die off. These also work well for mosquitos! You can place the bits into standing water and it will kill off the mosquito larvae. It is non toxic to birds and other wildlife.

*You can purchase these at most local nurseries, which I always recommend supporting your small local nurseries whenever you can!

Yellow Sticky Traps

While the Mosquito bits help to kill off the larvae, these sticky gnat traps help kill the adult flies. I know they aren’t the most aesthetic vibe, but the gnats are highly attracted to the bright yellow color. Placing these in the soil in conjunction with using the mosquito bits is the way to go to keep those gnats out of your scene!

Plug-In Fly Trap

These plug in fly traps work great in addition to the sticky gnat traps to keep the gnats in check! It works well for trapping mosquitos and other types of pesky flies as well.

This one gallon watering can has a perfect spout to make sure you can be precise when watering over your soil with the mosquito bit “tea” You want to make sure you pour over slowly and evenly over soil. You only need to water the top 2-3” of soil with the treatment.

You can purchase something similar to these at most local nurseries (which I highly recommend supporting your small local nurseries!)

Watering Can

These mesh bags work great to soak the mosquito bits into to make the “tea”. I place the amount of bits needed in one of these and then soak in a 1 or 2 gallon watering can depending on how much I need for 30 minutes.

These are just regular old produce bags that you can find at your local grocery market like Sprouts, but I’ve found they work great for this purpose. (I always recommend supporting your local small businesses) but if you want ‘em now, click the link below.

Ps. you could also cut some old pantyhose or use cheese cloth to make a little bag for the bits if you have some of that stuff laying around. Just make sure it is a really fine mesh so the bits don’t fall through.
